CoroMill 360, the new 60 degree face mill from Sandvik Coromant combines high security and cost-effective performance for heavy-industry segments.

A robust cutter body in through-hardened steel provides strength for the most demanding operations, with wedge-clamped inserts housed in an exchangeable cassette system to maximize machining performance. The precise location of the cassettes against the cutter body ensures accurate cutting performance while quick-release inserts, which can be removed with one turn of the wedge screw, help to reduce tool change times and provide maximum flexibility.

The 4-edged inserts give a light-cutting performance and are available in 19 mm and 28 mm, with each size using the same cutter body to keep tool inventory to a minimum. They offer a maximum cutting depth of 18 mm at high feed per tooth to ensure a highly productive performance. Their wide parallel land design ensures a high surface finish quality unique for a heavy duty milling cutter.

CoroMill 360 is available in diameters from 160 – 500 mm in close and extra close pitch design, Arbor and CIS Arbor shank styles. Inserts come in high-performance, New Insert Generation grades for steel, stainless steel, cast iron and heat resistant super alloy machining.

Sandvik Coromant Co.

Release date: September 8, 2008

Fair Lawn, New Jersey, September 8, 2008 – Sandvik Coromant has unveiled the CoroMill 345, a flexible tool that provides high performance face cutting with small depths of cut in steel and stainless steel. Available in early 2009, the CoroMill 345 offers high performance across a spectrum of applications ranging from small-batch, mixed machining to high-volume dedicated production lines.

As part of a new generation of 45-degree face mills, the CoroMill 345 is equipped with double-sided inserts that provide four edges on each side. The new tool offers full cutting edge backing and insert-seat stability through shims with strategic support islands that match insert rake-faces. The CoroMill 345′s uncompromised performance makes it suitable for a variety of operations, from roughing to mirror-finishing with wiper inserts.

By featuring a more positive axial inclination at small depths of cut, the CoroMill 345 offers a soft cutting action with low axial pressure on the workpiece. As the depth of cut becomes larger, a more upright part of the cutting edge is engaged, giving the insert a more substantial structure for high security.

The CoroMill 345 will optimize processes in a variety of machine tools, ranging from small, low-powered machines to large, innovative multi-task machining centers. The tool will be released in early 2009 in diameters from 1.57″ to 9.84″. Attendees of IMTS 2008 can receive a first look at the CoroMill 345 in Sandvik Coromant’s booth, located at F-2000.

GC4225 – the next generation of high-performing first choice insert for general steel turning

GC4225 from Sandvik Coromant represents the next generation of P25 grades to enhance machining performance in the general steel turning area.

Over the past few years, Sandvik Coromant has carried out extensive R&D to establish the new P25 grade, GC4225, which is the next insert generation to make the general steel-turning area even broader, more productive and more reliable.

A multi-talented insert grade for steel turning

In general steel turning everything varies. The steel material varies from un-alloyed to high-alloyed bar-material through to various forgings and castings. The type of operation varies from rough to finish turning with conditions ranging from good to difficult.

GC4225 has an improved capacity to adapt to variations in workpiece material and operational demands towards the tougher end of applications, thus providing more versatility. The new black and yellow grade provides a new potential for increasing productivity through higher cutting data, backed up by improved reliability.
